NPRA Stands with National Protestors against Inhumane ICE tactics

The National Puerto Rican Agenda (NPRA),  a nonpartisan alliance of state-side Puerto Rican organizations, announced it stands in solidarity with all the peaceful protestors across the country who are speaking out against the inhumane immigration policies and the aggressive tactics employed by ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Breaking up families and terrorizing immigrant communities is not only cruel it is un-American. These actions threaten the very fabric of a nation built by immigrants and violate basic human rights. The targeted raids and detentions are creating unnecessary chaos and inflicting long lasting trauma on children and families whose only "crime" is seeking safety, opportunity, some in the midst of seeking legal citizenship and a better life.

As a national organization rooted in the Puerto Rican diaspora, we know firsthand the importance of family unity, community stability, and the struggle for dignity and inclusion. Although Puerto Ricans are United States citizens, we will not remain silent while attempts are made to dehumanize and villainize our immigrant brothers and sisters.

NPRA calls for a humane, just, and comprehensive immigration policy—one that upholds due process, family unity, and the founding ideals of this nation. We urge our elected officials to stand on the right side of history and reject policies that promote fear and division. We urge government officials to stand with the Founding Fathers of 1787 when they first announced the Constitution of the Unites States: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty….do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

NPRA remains committed to the rule of law and the U-S Constitution. We remain committed to peaceful protest. We have the right and duty to peacefully protest against injustice. Our later Founding Mothers and Fathers of the numerous United States civil rights movements, taught great lessons in non-violent protest and achieved great victories for liberty and equality. We join with our allies across all communities to resist injustice and build a country where all families can thrive without fear.

The Puerto Rican National Agenda (NPRA) was created as a nonpartisan alliance of state-side Puerto Rican organizations, elected and appointed officials, community leaders, and volunteer citizens. Born of a collective desire to unite, educate, and strengthen our capacity to create positive change, in addressing issues affecting the Puerto Rican people.
