Trump: #GrabbingAmericaByItsPussy

The new President of the United States of America, "The Donald". Mr. Donald Trump.

Donald Trump just grabbed America by its pussy. Literally.

It may sound offensive, but it’s the truth. The most hated and feared candidate by the American press establishment just became the 45th President of the United States. Let’s just let that sink in.

He insulted Mexicans and promised to build a wall to keep illegal immigrants away. He mocked the handicapped, the Muslims, the veterans, and even prompted his cult-like followers to punch, shove and push out of his rallies many African Americans and Latinos. He fought with the press and much of the traditional American media establishment. He made the most politically incorrect campaign in history, and almost ended it boosting about having grabbed women by her pussy. The incredible journey to the most unlikely candidate just ended this morning. Donald Trump is the new president of the United States.

Yet, he can be politically correct and presidential when needed, just as he was elegant in his acceptance speech. He said he expected America to “come together” as a unified nation, making Hillary Clinton’s slogan his. She must be crying. Or yelling. Unbelievable.

"Sorry to keep you waiting... complicated business...”, he said. “I just received a call from Secretary Clinton...she fought very hard...we owed her a major debt of service ...it is time for us to come together as one people".

In the coming days and weeks the American and the world press will be analyzing the repercussions of the historic election, in which today, up until 3:30 in the morning, the was still uncertainty of who was to become their leader. But time passed and Hillary conceded.

His election represents a strong return to conservatism. Republicans gained control in the House and Senate, which means the American voters rejected the eight years of the Democrats' and Obama's policies.

It means goodbye to Planned Parenthood. Goodbye to Universal Insurance. Farewell to the advances made by the LGBTT community under Obama. Farewell to the possibilities of a balanced Supreme Court.  A possible stop to the advances in many liberties and an increase in the most feared segments of the American landscape. Racism. Sexism. Prejudice. More power for the NRA, for the KKK, and for all  those sectors that felt beaten by the so-called "liberal press."  More Sarah Palin and less Michelle Obama. That's what this presidency is all about.

Trump played well his cards. The fear of ISIS, the Muslims extremists and the apparent increased power of Russia, won in the collective psyche of the Americans. We can expect more radicalism from conservatives and a new public discourse against minorities.

It has been a waking call for the media. Many newspapers and news outlets endorsed Clinton and must be shaking now for taking on editorial lines against Trump.

It also means political analysis has changed. They did not see this coming and were not expecting so much underlying support for what they described as an outrageous candidate. Yet, it means Trump and his strategists read the American sentiment well. He carved in in the needs of those who felt ignored and made them his core strength.

What does his victory means for us in Puerto Rico as that nation’s oldest colony, possession and territory?

Scary to think about it.  Trump got no support on the Island. Not even by local republicans. And the turbulent economy will now be handled by a Congress approved Fiscal Board made of many republicans, but appointed by Obama. Would Trump care about this Island? Here, where most of his business ventures have crashed? After all, most of the people in Florida voted for him, except the Puerto Rican diaspora in Orlando. What impact would that vote have on us Boricuas here and there?

Local politicians must run to make amends with Trump’s team. Jenniffer González as a Republican herself, must try to quickly repair what harm was made by the local party’s coldness towards him in order to gain access and push for Ricky Rosselló’s agenda on the mainland.

The Populares that have not yet recovered from their defeat, will now have to deal with Trump. The autonomists and those in favor of the status quo, probably will not have support. And the independentism movement  must prepare for the worst. If Obama does not grant a pardon for Oscar Lopez, his life will be over with President Trump.

Ours was not a campaign, but rather a movement”, said Trump, echoing in my mind those words spoken here by Alexandra Lúgaro. “No haré partido porque esto es un movimiento...".  “I will not create a political party because this is a movement”, she said. I rest my case about her and the similarities with Trump. Perhaps now people will accept them.

The truth is that this has been an “aha” moment not only for us in Puerto Rico, but for most people in America and the rest of the world. He caught us with our pants down. He grabbed us all by the pussy and we didn’t even realize it. In Obama’s words “it’s time to change”.

  1. Sandra,I think people heard Trump talking but did not listen to the words he said in any way. I have seen a lot of religious boricuas praising him and inviting others to vote for him without not even ONE reason in their comments. It was like a robotic action, hypnotized by words they don't even understand or evaluate. Every bad comment, prejudiced actions or uneducated or questionable behavior of Trump was erased from their minds. And I am trying to figure out WHAT in his speeches "seduced" this people so well, enchanted them with such passion that minds were "programed" to vote for him. Even latinos who were rejected, insulted and ashamed by him.
Trump is a man of quick movements and a fast tongue,he won't let anyone tell him what to do or change his mind. I pray that his advisors may manage to handle international issues such as diplomatic relations and decissions over our soldiers in other nations the best way possible so Mr. President Trump do not throw us to more conflicts in and out of the nation and more people die.
